Cyber Eagle

DEAS Cyber+ is a partner of the Italian Air Force in the Cyber Eagle military cyber exercise. The objectives of the activities are to test and strengthen the innovative technologies in use in the Armed Force to increase their cybersecurity and their ability to defend the infrastructures against cyber threats.

2025

DEAS Cyber+, together with the Italian Air Force (ITAF), conducted an advanced cyber defence exercise on AERONET, a hybrid and distributed infrastructure supporting flight operations, characterized by the integration of IT systems, OT components and critical services for air traffic control.

Through a sophisticated Adversary Emulation activity, DEAS’s Red Team simulated complex and highly realistic attack scenarios on real infrastructure, covering all phases from initial infiltration and persistence to lateral movement and compromise of mission-critical systems, as well as OT supply chain attacks, with the aim of stress-testing the resilience of the aeronautical ecosystem and assessing the operational impact on Air Traffic Control.

In parallel, the Blue Team tested detection, response and recovery capabilities, supporting event analysis, isolation of compromised assets and the secure restoration of essential services to nominal operational conditions.

The exercise confirmed DEAS Cyber+ as a key technology partner and a national pillar in the cyber defence of complex, high-criticality systems essential to the security of the Country.

2024

DEAS Cyber+ Adversary Emulation specialists (Red Team) tested the Italian Air Force (ITAF) alert chain, as well as the sensors of the ITAF Security Operation Center (SOC). The Red Team simulated the behavior of an evolute malicious actor in order to identify vulnerabilities of the unclassified IT and cyber systems in use, while a joint defenders team (Blue Team) operated transversally to detect such threats and react promptly and effectively.

The exercise involved for the first time an important operational component of the Armed Forces, in order to test its ability to defend itself from cyber attacks, namely the DADR (Deployable Air Defence Radar) mobile radar system of the 4th Telecommunications and Air Defence Systems and Flight Assistance Brigade of Borgo Piave (LT), for command and control capabilities far from permanent bases.

2023

DEAS Cyber+, together with the Italian Air Force, formed a joint team of operators, the Tiger Team, and worked to identify vulnerabilities and critical issues within some strategic assets of the Armed Force through Adversary Emulation activities.

The objective of the exercise was to test the Italian Air Force Cyber Command and Control chain over a period of approximately 50 days, to improve its cyber resilience and response times in the event of an attack.

Key benefits

  • Training the Italian Air Force alert chain and its reaction capacity

  • Testing the ITAF SOC advanced sensors to prevent and mitigate cyber attacks

  • Testing the Armed Force perimeter to detect any surfaces exposed to cyber attacks

  • Testing the resilience capacity to DoS attacks

  • Testing the ITAF human vulnerabilities through Social Engineering campaigns

  • Testing the risk of lateral movements and data exfiltration

  • Overall improving the cybersecurity and resilience of the Air Force's critical infrastructures
